And I spent years being afraid of what that actually means.
I am not here to convince you. I am not here to sell you a cute aesthetic or a feel good moment. I am here because I know you are holding back. I know because I was too.
It is exhausting being spiritually constipated.
Faith in my house was not a conversation. It was a performance. And I was good at performing.
What nobody taught me was that faith is not a feeling you perform. Faith is action. Faith is self belief. Faith is loving yourself enough to trust what God put inside you even when everything around you says otherwise.
I Built Something. Then I Lost Everything.
By 2020 Girl+God was a multi six figure brand with a warehouse, a community, and hundreds of thousands of women worldwide including celebrities and influencers who believed in what we were building.
And I was burnt out, lost, and performing my success just like I had performed my faith.
I quit my radio show in 2021, closed the warehouse in 2022 then went to seminary. I studied womanist theology, spiritual and pastoral care, trauma informed practice, embodied nervous system awareness, and what lives underneath the patterns that keep women small. I earned my Master of Theological Studies from Emory University Candler School of Theology. And when I say earned, I mean EARNED. Business crashed, money disappeared, opportunities stopped, and my life felt like it was over.
A lot more happened but this is already long enough, right? Anyway…
I had to find out who I was outside of status, revenue, and other people's validation. That season was the longest darkest night of my soul. And it was the most necessary thing that has ever happened to me.
Because I could not lead women through something I had never survived myself.
This Is Not A Religious Space. It Is A Sacred One..
I have studied multiple faith traditions. I have had women from every background, every denomination, every corner of the world tell me that Girl+God felt like home.
We believe you cannot love God and refuse to love and show up for yourself. Even when it feels like there are no other options. We are here because too many women have been handed a faith that made them smaller instead of a faith that set them free.
Girl+God is where that changes.
